But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore. (Isaiah 42:22) Certainly. Isaiah 42:22 is a piercing indictment and a prophetic revelation about the condition of a specific people — a nation that has been systematically oppressed, trapped, and forgotten. Let’s break it down: ⸻ Isaiah 42:22 (KJV) “But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.” ⸻ Expounded Meaning ✦ “But this is a people robbed and spoiled…” This describes a nation violently stripped of its identity, heritage, and inheritance. Historically, this has applied prophetically to the Israelites, especially the descendants of the House of Judah — many of whom were scattered across the globe through slavery and colonial conquest. Robbed of their land, culture, language, names, and dignity. Spoiled by war, oppression, and systemic plunder. Compare with: • Joel 3:5 – “Because ye have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried into your temples my goodly pleasant things.” • Deuteronomy 28:29 – “Thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled evermore…” ⸻ ✦ “…they are all of them snared in holes…” This refers to traps, both physical and psychological. These are systems of entrapment — poverty, addiction, undereducation, police brutality, redlining, and broken homes — designed to keep the people confined and disempowered. “Holes” also suggest hiding places or graves — the people are buried alive by the conditions imposed upon them. ⸻ ✦ “…and they are hid in prison houses…” This is shockingly literal. The verse foretells mass incarceration — the warehousing of Israelite descendants in prison systems around the world, particularly in nations involved in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. In the United States, Black men (descendants of slaves and many likely from the tribe of Judah) are disproportionately imprisoned at staggering rates. • The “prison industrial complex” profits from this. • Many are falsely convicted or over-sentenced. • This condition was prophesied. ⸻ ✦ “…they are for a prey, and none delivereth…” They are hunted, exploited, and devoured — spiritually, economically, and socially. The term “prey” means they are targeted by predators: corrupt systems, unjust laws, violent policing, and generational exploitation. The world profits from their downfall, but no nation, no system, no leader rises up to truly deliver them. ⸻ ✦ “…for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.” They are treated as spoils of war — stripped of everything and passed around like property. Yet no one calls for their restoration. No reparations. No justice. No repentance from the nations that abused them. “Restore” is key — because Yahuah Himself will restore what man refuses to. This is echoed in: • Jeremiah 30:17 – “I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds…” • Isaiah 61:7 – “For your shame ye shall have double…” ⸻ Summary: Isaiah 42:22 is a divine lament and a prophetic snapshot of the true Israelites in their cursed condition — robbed of everything, trapped in the system, hidden in prisons, devoured by the nations, and forgotten. No one cries out for justice. No one calls for their restoration. But Yahuah sees it all — and His restoration is coming. ⸻ Would you like this transformed into a powerful visual poster like the others?
